Of course, I had tears in my eyes as I read ...

Sherpa Coaching Launches YouTube Channel (26-Jul-2010)

I just received an email from Sherpa Coaching that they've launched their own YouTube channel with hundreds of videos on it.  This is a fantastic achievement and congratulations to them!

It's very "Sherpa-Centric" (meaning it's promoting their brand).  And there's also a lot of really good stuff there.

You might find it worth checking out.

Coaching History – Laura Whitworth – from Accountant to Coach Pioneer (22-Jul-2010)

I'm a big fan of Laura Whitworth, primarily because as I was doing research on The Wheels of Life series of books/videos, I discovered that she and her co-authors, Co-Active Coaching, were the first to publish a Wheel of Life.  I always refer to her when speaking on the subject throughout the past years and I'm sure into the long-term future.

Here's a great article on Coaching Commons about her.

The Value of Coaching People Skills (21-Jul-2010)

I love this article from Coaching Commons describing how important it is to coach for "people skills" these days in both personal and corporate coaching.

Personally, I get on my soapbox a bit when I hear executives talking about people skills as "soft skills" because they think there isn't a technical proficiency required.  I actually think that people skills ARE technical skills required for every job and they need to get more attention paid to them in professional development.

You can read the article here....

Corporate Coaching - Internal Coaching Pool (20-Jul-2010)

Here's a great article from HR Magazine UK on developing an internal pool of coaches and mentors.  (Thanks to our friends at Coaching Commons for letting us know about this!)

You can read the article here.

Executive Coaching in the Middle East (17-Jul-2010)

Our friends at Coaching Commons shared a link to this article on the growth of executive coaching in the Middle East.  Although this is mostly a press release, there are a few interesting points to pick out specific to coaching in that region.

Read the article here.

A potentially controversial challenge to the coaching profession (16-Jul-2010)

I read a very interesting article on Coaching Commons today where an individual is challenging the coaching profession on the approaches some coaches take and whether it's appropriate or not.

Getting the date, time and time zones correct (14-Jul-2010)

I do a lot of international coaching and media work and up until today, I have been proud of the claim that "I never get the date / time / time zone wrong."  I can't use the word "never" anymore as I somehow made a mistake and was four hour early for something.  DOH!

The tool I always use for checking the correct time for appointments is The World Clock, and I use the Meeting Planner function.  It works wonderfully.  This time, it was human error.  (DOH Again!)

Do you know the difference between burnout and stress? (12-Jul-2010)

I suspect this could be useful information for all of us from time to time.

A number of good assessments for you or your clients (11-Jul-2010)

I came across a site this morning, Discovery Health, related to the Discovery Channel.  There's an assessments page that includes a number tools for health, social, relationships, habits, etc.  Most are free and there are also some very good premium tools four about $7 each.

I've done a few myself and I would say that these are "good".  They're not the larger, more scientifcically robust and rigorous psychometric tests available, but these assessments could certainly be a useful tool to ...

I've done a few myself and I would say that these are "good".  They're not the larger, more scientifcically robust and rigorous psychometric tests available, but these assessments could certainly be a useful tool to "get a conversation started" with a coaching client, or just for you to use yourself.

Here's a short little video from TED (less than three minutes) where Mitchell Joachim tells us about the current ability to grow our homes in a sustainable way, using technology that humans have used for over 2500 years.

It's worth watching and considering the possibilities!

How good of a liar are you? (8-Jul-2010)

Nearly everyone has lied at one point or another in their lives.  Some people work really hard to only be honest, others develop lying as an art form.

There are debates happening in Australia about teaching ethics in schools (story for another day) and one of the examples often brought up in the debate is about in what situations would it be considered acceptable to lie.

What are your thouhts about honesty / lying?  Explore the coaching questions below...I've thrown in a lot of additional ...

Two great links for Stress Management (7-Jul-2010)

One of the most common areas clients ask about is "stress management".

Here are two links I often refer clients to in order that they can do some of their own research (versus me necessarily telling them all the techniques to try).  This helps promote critical thinking.

My Living Legacy Statement (5-Jul-2010)

I've developed a number of training / coaching combined programmes this past year, many of which have an exercise called "Write Your Living Legacy Statement".

I've written my own and thought it could be worth sharing with you.

For those of you who are coaches, feel free to use this model in the work you do with clients.
If you're a manager, feel free to use this model with your staff.
Actually, anyone can use this for yourself or to help someone else.

It's an open invitation....
